Narcissos, you write "Molon La've." Well, my boy, you blew it again! The emphasis (tonos)in the second word is over the ultima (ligousa). It's " Molon Lave' " Learn it, my boy! You don't have to thank me for the advice, or acknowledge it, either.

Narcissos is a living example of what damage a little knowlegde can impart to a person. It's a dangerous thing! The poor fellow is going stark mad! The ravings of this lost soul reminds one the screams one hears when passing outside the crazyhouse (Daphni, outside of Athens). Can the Webmaster put some sort of a muzzle to restrain this maniac?

“Apart from the immense increase of international trade and the fraternisation of many nations, what were the results, temporary and enduring, of the career of this great man? Of supreme and lasting importance to the world was the extension of Hellenic culture; secondly, a vast territory was opened up which had been useless as a desert until the conquered nomad tribes had been trained to follow civilised ways of life, with the resultant impetus given to the building of cities, the creation of harbours, ships and other aids for travel on land and sea; thirdly, financial and economic reforms; and lastly, the partial realisation of Alexander's dream of universal toleration for all religions and the brotherhood of mankind. These results differed in many regions of the empire; for various reasons the successors of Alexander had not been able to follow all his visions”……. Behold as our King, our Emperor, our God, makes his presence known to the masses. Behold how Narcissos worships his fame and glory. The greatest love is to those who deserve it!!! Molon Láve

My friend Lakonoan. No need to insult me like that(if I have a brain or not and if it is in gear) I do not agree with what you say, again on the other hand I’m keeping my options open to the possibility that I might be wrong. Fair enough I suppose. The Mongols took a lot of things from us under the 400 years of slavery. But they could not kill the Ancient Spirit, our Spirit, Narcissos Spirit. I walk in the footsteps of our ancients and I, NARCISSOS, KNOW MY HISTORY. Constantinople was a great city, NO DOUBT, but ALEXANDRIA WAS GREATER….. I am a god- fearing man, but I do not exactly agree with what our churches instigate many times. Remember that MY emperor, MY king, My ruler was Alexander the Great. A GOD amongst men and his empire was not the Eastern Roman Empire…… No Lakonoan, HIS empire was far greater than that. And it was PAN-HELLENIC. Molon Láve O´how I love Alexandria, my city, my birtplace, here is where I die……

Narcissos, shame on you! And you claim you know Our history Naming our children after some relative is not, I repeat, it is not an Ottoman tradition. On the contrary, those Mongols took it from us. You need three hands to count the number of persons who ruled an empire from this very city that I live. Their name was Konstantinos. That tradition started in the 4th century, a couple of centuries before the cruel appearance of Islam, etc., etc. Read your history, my friend, and don't speak, or write, before you put your brain (if you have opne) in gear!

Hello Narcissos, first of I have to say that you strike me as very emotional. You seem to have the need for continues attention. You write here almost every day, sometimes not making any sense at all. I wonder if their actually more than one of you, two or three of Narcissos. By the way your name is spelled NARCISSUS and not Narcissos. Anyway, what I want say is that all this energy and time you, or all of you, put in when writing these “quotes” or whatever, is a waste. All this energy and time could be used for something else, more productive. Have you thought about this, my boy.??

Some advice for you, my Hellenic sister(of course as Narcissos sees it) You are so right on this issue, unfortunately this is something that we picked up under Turkish rule. This and many other matters of their more social nature . Many Neo-Greeks have these remnants(“traditions”) of our Ottoman past and its going to take a generation or two before it leaves their system. Do not despair though, it shall happen sooner or later. We are after all Europeans and NOT Asian-Mongols. I suggest you name the child Electra or Cleopatra. It is in you hands….. Molon Láve

As you all know, we are Greek and have so much to be proud of. Our country and traditions and all that. The tradition that I can not stand is the naming of the children. I am pregnant and expecting a girl. My "Petherika" are expecting this child to be named after my Pethera (who isnt the warmest person in the world). I don't mind naming the boy after the pethero but both after them? What about my parents? Why is it that we still have to follow this? There are so many beautiful names out there - and I love our Greek names - I have a couple of names that I am considering - but if we decide to name this child something other than their names - I feel like it is going to be W3! Kai tha mas fae e grinia tis. People today do not have 8 children - they only have 1 or 2 and to be forced to pick these names, is an injustice! I am just curious - how many of you out there have followed this tradition and how many of you have stopped this? Please answer back

O Laconians, what toil do I undergo to please you! Narcissos I'm dying with the aid of too many physicians. Alexander the Great Do you not think it a matter worthy of lamentation that when there is such a vast multitude of them [worlds], we have not yet conquered one? Alexander the Great I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well. Alexander the Great I assure you I had rather excel others in the knowledge of what is excellent, than in the extent of my power and dominion. Alexander the Great I send you a kaffis of mustard seed, that you may taste and acknowledge the bitterness of my victory. Alexander the Great There is nothing impossible to him who will try. He was the most powerful man in his world at an age when most of us are still being sat on by our elders. He had a strong sense of his close relationship to the gods, encouraging the idea that he was the begotten son of Zeus. In my view, he set out to reach the eastern edge of the inhabited world. Like his great tutor, Aristotle, he had seriously underestimated its extent. Tutorials back in Greek Macedonia had persuaded him that the world ran out in northwest India. His men refused to go on, but he returned to visit a supposed southern edge of the world at the mouth of the River Indus and probably to aim for a western edge beyond the Strait of Gibraltar. If he had lived, we would have been spared the ghastliness of the next global power, the Romans. The late André Malraux, that beacon of French educated culture, once told that he admired young Alexander because at least he had the courage to die of his vices.

Once again I make my entrance, dear friends. This time slightly more in inspired by the ways of modesty . I’m back and I feel good, I feel great actually. Today I was hanging out in the Baghdad Café, as I always do in the afternoons around 1500 hours. Drinking my (green) dragon thee and smoking the water-pipe with Moroccan tobacco (the best tobacco comes from Morocco). All off the sudden I see this Caucasian little boy running down the street. This boy really stood out from the rest of the Arabs around there. He had Hellenic features ( I saw this immediately), blond hair, light skin and a beautiful little nose. He passed me when I said to him: O`here Alexandros…. He stopped and stared at me, with a curious look upon his face. After a while he replied: Shoo, tahkar Arabi?(do you speak Arabic) I said I do and then I asked him where he was from. He said: Aswan( in the south). What is your name, I asked. He said: Fahdi Haddad. Why are you so light skinned, I asked. He said: My grandmother is originally from Younan(Greece)….. The mighty bloodline, I thought to myself. I asked if he ever been to Younan, he said: No, I have not. After this he looks straight into my eyes and says: you and me have the same color of eyes(blue). Yes, we do my Hellenic child, yes we do. Fahdi Haddad ran down the street and disappeared into the crowds…… O´here Fahdi Haddad Molon Láve

My dear Pebbles… You insist on hindering Helios from me and the rest of the united Hellenic front. Why??? What have I done? Am I so bad? Don’t you agree with the things I write?? And if don’t, feel free to correct me or even open discussion if you like. Another thing, when you say “we don’t really care”, are you then speaking for all of us?? I think not…. Sure, I might live in the dreams of the past, but I’m not the only one. I might even be a little rough around the edges, but then again who isn’t. By now you probably figured out who I am…… Narcissos. And your right, I love the sound of my own voice. I love referring to myself in the third person and I love getting response from people around me( mesmerized by me and of me). Do not forget, I am Narcissos…… Predictable and boring?? Quite the opposite, Pebbles, I provide this forum with innovating point of views and ideas. Lets break away from the usual “Hello, I’m from the U.S but I visit Greece once every five years” contributions and make way for the enlightenment to illuminate our minds and harts. Cleopatra (fimi ston patera) gave birth to Julius Caesar’s child, it was a boy. They named him Censarion after his father. Cleopatras dream was for Censarion to achieve what Alexander the Great had 300 years earlier. Her dream was the return and expansion of the once great Egyptian empire. Censarion was to reclaim the throne of Egypt and rule it like his once great ancestors did, like Gods. Unfortunately this never happened, Why???…. very simple: He wasn’t Alexander the Great!!! Alexander and his Macedonian Phalanx crossed the Asian grassland like Gods walking on the earth. The earth fucki## trembled (4.5 on the Richter scale). Alexander the Great was a God amongst men. He was greater than Perikles, Leonidas, Achilles and Hercules put together, he was the son of a Macedonian general. Troy is presumably another awful attempt to illustrate the historical events that took place. A certain gentleman by the name of Oliver Stone will soon present us with his portrayal of Alexander the Great. The sad part is that Alexander will be portrayed as a drunken, homosexual mad man and not as the God that he was. Hollywood production they say……

How about that!!! So now I’m a criminal, an offender…..a culprit (cultivated word by the way). Is Narcissos suicidal???…… I shall pass your little “jumping in the Nile” offer, “O´ ellanie adelfe” or is it …… adelfi. Narcisso will never be forgotten….. not if you ´r Grater than life it self that is!!! In the same way as Ikaros I will touch the Sun(the enlightenment) and then plunge to my death, in the great waters of MOTHER HELLAS…… Ime Oreos??? I shall never speak ill of your guestbook, as I respect the Spartan nation. On the other hand I will not tolerate the “sahlamares” you sling at me, Concerned Laconian. I think it’s true, it’s people like you that hinder the unification of Mother Hellas and our people. Unity is the one thing WE lack. And your not exactly helping, Laconian. Do not write me off as “stupid” and “vulgar”…… not just yet, Laconian. You might be proven wrong at some point. Oh, yeah Kakodaimona….. how about the Jews as a unit, persons, organization, countries. O`here Spartiates Narcissos(Hellenic vanity)

Mr. Kakodaimonia " a cigar is only a cigar", "my two cents"..... and these are the words of a person of hellenic origin???, I think NOT. You sound more like you´r running around trying to be Anglo. Spare me of this in the future, "filaraki" I don´t even know where to begin with you and your little statements. Ok, Diogenes.... a cynic, yes. Allthough The Light and it´s metaphorical complexity CAN NOT be illustrated simply as a Biological entity. This would be verry wrong, "filaraki" The Light stands as the fundamental value in MY Hellenic culture. The Light is the Enlightenment, the Knowledge, the Power, and so on, that MY ancestors developed thru out thousands of years. The Light is a symbol of Great Hellas and it´s mighty people. Do not forget that the word "Hellines" means people of the sun (HELIOS)people of the light. What the people in the East call Alexander the Great, is written on "my old shoes"(sta palia mou ipodimata).....if you understand that, then it´s good for you, "filaraki". Barbarians are those who do not respect the cradle of humanity(Hellenism). Are you one of Them, kakodaimona??????????????????????? Barbarians are those who speak with a poison tounge, LIES;LIES;LIES and nothing but lies against ME, MY LAND, MY PEOPLE. These are the Barbarians, again: ARE YOU ONE OF THEM

If I were a "barbarian" (read simply someone of non-Hellenic origin) visiting this website I would be appalled by your message. But to take it from the beginning "file mou" sometimes "a cigar is only a cigar" and nothing more. Diogenes was a cynic and his request was consistence to his beliefs. What a human being needs for survival is provided freely by nature, everything else is unnecessary. The most basic and yet the most precious of all, sunlight, was BEYOND Alexander the "Great" Also, Alexander did not spare Athens for Diogenes’ sake; he spared her out of political prudence. I will say nothing of your claim to being a descendant of the Egyptian Ptolemies. But I will say something to your statement that this world would have still been under the rule of Alexander. Modern-day Persians, and other people of the eastern lands, call "our" Alexander the "Great Horned-One" (i.e. the devil). As for the rest---you lost me! "Who is ungrateful?" "Who ridicules?" And what? "WHO are the "barbarians?"" (think before you answer). And one last thing--- you are a Spartan in addition to a Macedonian? (by the way the Spartans were a thorn on the side of the Macedonians for many centuries). Dimi….give it up! (its not your first time in this forum). One should feel secure and proud in their ethnic identity without having to resort to the bashing, insulting and belittling of "Others." My two cents’ worth of opinion? You have a lot of baggage, file mou! Geia xara.

The dialogue between Alexander the Great and Diogenes, after Alexanders conquest over the Athenians. (Told by Diogenes) Alexander: Ask me, what you want and it will be a pleasure for me to give it to you Diogenes: He stood in front of me while hiding the sun, I gave him the following answer: I want only one thing Alexander. You stand in front of me, and you' re hinding the sun, so, don' t take from me, the thing that you can not give me!! Question: What did Diogenes meen by "you're hinding the sun"?? (This is of course a classic Hellenic metaphor). Answer: What he ment was, "Do not come here with your armys, Alexander, and deprive me of the Light(positivism)". Alexander, of course, understood this metaphor and he respected it, by taking his army out of Athens and leaving her undamaged. Now, this is the first time I(Narcissos) enter this guestbook. I´m of Hellenic origin and a proud Macedonian descendant of the mighty Ptolemeic bloodline. This bloodline originates from 2000 years ago, back when Alexander the Great ruled the world.(It should have stayed like this, if you ask me). Anyway, my point is, that the ancient greeks left a strong legacy to our world. The sad part is that these values have lost their way into the dark mists of history. The HELLENIC LIGHT that our ancients encouraged to the rest of the world. is something that the ungrateful barabarians now ridicule. They rather read about Romes gladiator games.....sad. Remember that our ancestors use to say: "We the greeks and barbarians the rest of them" I will show my respects to my Spartan brothers and sisters with the words of your Spartan ancestors...... WE ARE WAR, WE ARE DEATH, WE ARE SPARTANS yours truly Narcissos (hellenic vanity)

Hello to all, To those people that are concerned with the amount of " undesirable " messages which appear in this guestbook, I think the Webmaster of this site should seriously look at scrapping the whole concept of a guestbook and perhaps introduce a proper Forum .This way people would have to become members and if they continued to post rubbish, the webmaster could then have at this disposal many ways of blocking them!! The other benefits would be that the Forum could be split into many sections where people could leave comments just about the site, post messages regarding looking for lost friends/relatives etc as has shown to be the case in this guestbook from time to time. Another section could be for travellers to Lakonia wanting advice, tips and so on, the list is endless!! Anyway, just a thought for the Webmaster to consider. O Karitsas

So what are you saying? I don’t believe Katerina from New Jersey is questioning anyone’s right to say or do anything. She is simply expressing an opinion that when we Anglicise our names, presumably to appease English ears, we are perhaps at the same time acceding to their wish to be part of the melting pot and make our culture similar to theirs. Is this not assimilation? Is that what we want?

To my dearest Jimmy, thank you for sharing your time, however brief, with me. You were a wonderful husband and a passionate lover. I am so sorry for the hurt that I caused you. I simply did not know how to deal with the pain of losing you. I wish you the very best. Goodbye my love.

To Lycourgos, I do believe that this is a guestbook where one expresses his/her " comments " about this site and not placing ads for this and that in here!! These types of posts should not be allowed in the first place, but it all comes down to the vigilance of the webmaster, if he has no time to edit the guestbook, then this sort of thing will continue unabated. If he has the time and does not bother about editing the guestbook, then as the greeks would say, " kala na pathei!" Best wishes O Karitsas

Leonidas is 100% right. Those that advertize paintings and pearls have no business in this guestbook. No, Leonidas, you are not anti-American. You are a true Spartan, like most of us, who do not like to see trash in our Lakonian Guestbook. Actually, if I may say so, the Webmaster should be taking care of these party crashers. Forgive me, Mr. Webmaster, but that's the way we see it!

I just wanted to pass on my heart-felt best wishes for the new year, not just to Laconians but all who have seen our wonderful country first-hand. I came back from Neapolis a few months ago and I still can't get over it. It was my third time back to the homeland and it is always an experience which puts life into perspective. ZHTO ELLAS!!

"Puro Cubano" if no insult was meant, no insult was taken :) Aν είσαι παλικάρι του τόπου μας, γέννα της Λακωνίας, και αν σάλπαρες για ξένες θάλασσες, την τύχη σου να βρεις, αγάλι-αγάλι στον τόπο σου να ξανά 'ρθεις. Tú me llamabas a tu nombre, y vine.

To 'A friend' in San Francisco: You're an idiot, too. Is that all ya got? A homophobe slander? At least one Greek, a woman, has demonstrated a sense of humor. The rest hide behind their 'knowledge' of the Greek language; they whisper with their keyboards, unable to engage in legitimate dialog and debate, choosing, instead, to cast stones from their glass houses. The person who goes by the name of "Mia Thalassa" makes a very good point about the culprit. I never believed that i will see a PATRIOTI behave so irresponsibly, and express himself with such vulgarity. My goodness, doesn't this person have anything good to say? Or anything better to do?

To: George Kay (what was your surname beFORE you changed it?) of Montreal, Canada Yori (eh?), In Internet language, UPPER CASE is YELLING. Calm down. Not long ago, in human calendar-time, a few perfect contributors to Laconian Guestook were preaching advice to choose Jesus and God as our savior, etc. Apparently they got back to their Holiday shopping, or...OR they ran out of hot air. Have you SEEN some of the website addresses placed on this website by anonymous contributors who could NOT be Spartans (unless they are depraved Spartans diluted by marriage to barBARians by wayward Greek parents and grandparents?) They and others have forgotten, or have never known, the principles of Democracy and freedom of speech and expression, no matter WHAT the message. Legitimate debate and dialog, farcial and otherwise, are like playing catch: sometimes your play-friend tosses the ball in a puddle of rainwater or mud, or through a neighbor's window, or rockets a fireball at your nads. Put the glove between you and the ball, and NEVER EVER put your hand inside the glove! Let the glove do the work it was designed for. That said, go eat flies, and you, too, have a decent whatever you celebrate at year's end. Eh? Dimi P.S. Vlaha, (your) silence is like tv on wedding night (thank you, Inspector Sidney Wang): unnecessary!
